The Book of Tiki turns 25

Presented by Sven Kirsten

Sven Kirsten takes you on a trip back in time to when the genre of Tiki practically did not exist. He will demonstrate how photographing and collecting the remnants of this lost culture led him to understand its unique qualities, and how that convinced him of the importance of documenting and preserving it. Follow Kirsten through the trials and tribulations of publishing The Book of Tiki and witness its unexpected rise as the bible of Polynesian Pop.

Sven Kirsten was born in 1955 in Hamburg, Germany. After a brief stint at the San Francisco Art Institute, he moved to Los Angeles to study cinematography at the American Film Institute. While working on music videos and commercials, he began his hobby of urban archeology and began delving into the last vestiges of Polynesian pop. He is the author of several books, including The Book of Tiki, Palm Springs Tiki, Tiki Pop, and The Art of Tiki. More info: svenkirsten.com
