Ska is a vibrant fusion of musical styles which originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Discover how ska blended mento (a traditional Jamaican genre), calypso from Trinidad and Tobago, African drumming, and American R&B to result in an energetic, upbeat sound that has endured for over six decades. Learn how, in just two years, ska developed into a new relaxed style, rocksteady, which then set the stage for the evolution of reggae in 1968.
